meet: sandra

Sandra could talk for hours about how excited she was about the process of buying her Habitat home, a secret she had to keep since she was planning one big surprise.

“I wanted to surprise my family and celebrate how hard I’ve worked to get here together,” said Sandra. “It was nice to meet my future neighbors in this process so I had someone to talk to about how excited I was!”

Sandra first learned about senior housing through Habitat when she did some research after her current landlord wanted to increase her rent, and needed the increased amount as soon as possible. In search of safe, affordable housing, she applied and was approved for the program.

Sandra enjoys working part-time at both Harris Teeter and her church, and spending time with her two children, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

“I got to buy a home of my own I actually built and meet so many different people. I thank God for Habitat for allowing me to increase my wisdom and expand my network. It’s a blessing to work with people who genuinely care about others having decent housing.”
