Anna-Marie
Anna Marie has lived in Chapel Hill since 2006 and has worked as a housekeeper on a children’s unit at UNC Hospitals for three years. She has always lived near major health care centers, and enjoys the environment of working in a hospital.
“My job is fun when the children realize I’m not a nurse, and I’m not here to poke them or ask questions. I’m here to clean their room, but I’m also there to have fun with you and make you comfortable during your stay,” said Anna Marie.
Anna Marie first found out about Habitat’s senior housing community when she saw a flyer at work while she was checking in for her shift. She was already searching for an affordable place to live, so she applied immediately and was accepted to purchase a home.
“The rent at my apartment keeps increasing, which is pushing out the core community,” said Anna Marie. “This program is great for creating security and building a community that can support each other. This is also a chance for me to settle in and have a place to live in until I die without wondering if my rent will ever increase.”
She enjoyed having the chance to learn how to build her own home and now enjoys exploring the town of Hillsborough. With art galleries, walking trails, and parks all nearby, she’s enjoying this new adventure in her life.
